MMPF eMed uses information and communication technology to give our volunteer providers and patients specialist clinical support across distance, within a country or between countries.

Why eMed

Many health workers on duty have little or no access to expert help. eMed connects people who are not in the same place, so a patient can be seen by a specialist they could not otherwise reach, and so patients can be followed up after a mission.

What it makes possible

A second opinion from a specialist far away, reassurance for doctors and patients alike, and continuing education and training for practitioners in remote places.

What stands in the way

Language and cultural differences, the lack of shared rules for care across borders and for patient privacy, equipment that can fail, and the cost of the technology and the connections it needs.
