Arthur Hazelwood, DDS

Dr Arthur I. Hazlewood is a Dentist who attained the highest leadership award in the country.
Earlier in his career he established the Office of Dental Affairs if the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC) which operated the 16 municipal hospitals of the city. He was appointed the first Director. He has held the position of Director of Planning and Program Development for the HHC and was responsible for building two teaching hospitals, as well as developing the city-wide ambulatory care system. He also served as Medical Director of the Morrisania Family Care Center .
Dr. Hazlewood was elected President of the American Association of Hospital Dentists in 1994. Between 2010 and 2012 he was president of the National Academies of Practice (NAP), a preeminent national inter-professional organization which advises both Congress and the public. In addition to holding regulatory positions at national and regional levels in the health care field, he was most recently Chairman of the Board for Daytop Village, an iconic national drug rehabilitation company .
His long term interest in international health has led to serving as a consultant to a number of countries including Guyana, Canada, Haiti, Barbados, Ghana and Senegal. Dr. Hazlewood holds the following degrees: DDS (Howard University), MPH (Columbia University), Advanced Certificate for Chiefs of Clinical Services (Harvard) and has completed courses for a degree in International Organization (LIU) .
